Coat and Boot Drive

The coat and boot drive is an annual Crescent community event. It is important that people who cannot afford to purchase warm clothing have the opportunity to receive a clothing donation from Crescent families. Each year there are thousand of hardship cases where people struggle to survive our winters. It is only one of many charitable events that we participate in during our school year. This banner reminds both parents and students that the drive is on and to go through your closets for jackets and boots that no longer fit.

House Flags

Simcoe House is the best! The purple flag is the symbol of the house that I belong to and the other houses are shown in the other colours. Simcoe is second on the flag pole because we have the second most house points. These points are obtained throughout the year when there are house competitions. When you join Crescent you are automatically assigned a house and you stay with your house through your entire stay at Crescent School.

Halloween

The Halloween party is an event thrown for the Lower School; were you get dressed in your Halloween costume and come to school, were there are multiple fun activities to participate in. It is usually in one of the gyms, with such things do as, bobbing for apples, haunted house, a raffle, etc.

It allows for the kids to interact with there friends, and be free and for the parents to get together and sit down and chat. It is an amazing function that has continued for many years.

Soccer

This picture is of Crescent School’s under 16 soccer team and their opponent, Ridley College. Crescent has many other teams such as squash, tennis, volleyball, badminton, basketball, hockey, and skiing. Our school competes in the CISAA and has had many winning teams. Many people come out to support these teams on both school days or on weekends. These are our “Crescent brothers” representing our school and installing a Crescent pride in our team successes. Not only do the players work hard but the coaches dedicate a great deal of time in practice and in games. Give a cheer to the Crescent teams!

Blazer

My Crescent School jacket has always been an indicator of my growth. I began Crescent in grade 3 and I have progressively gone from the small to the larger sizes in the Coyote green jacket. I admit my jacket is a little supersized right now and it will probably last me right through to grade 12! I will always recall trying to find my jacket when we had to wear it for the Holiday concert or for Prize Day. There was the odd time it landed in the lost and found along with many other student jackets.

Tie

Simcoe House is clearly the best of all Crecent School houses! The familiar green and purple tie with its permanent knot has been a fixture on my bedroom door handle for many school years. I am proud to say it has only been replaced once however, I did find it at the end of the school year at the bottom of my locker. I am now the owner of two Simcoe house ties. The tie identifies which house you belong to and this house division is just one more way to organize the Crescent students into smaller groups for team events.

Assignment #4 - Sabotage

1. This picture I have chosen is an example of indexical and iconic photographs. There is a deeper meaning, if you look at all the pictures. There is a representation of war in the picture, as you can see from the foreground and background pictures. The world trade centre was a target of terrorism, and the bombs from the Iraqi war, which are iconic pictures. Uncle Sam, in the bottom left corner is designed to look like Hitler and is an iconic picture. The American flag is an indexical picture, which means freedom and peace. The globe in the top corner is a indexical image, which is showing the 6 continents and the whole world united as one, no war or fighting.

Assignment #3 - Line

I choose these series of pictures because I though I best represented line. The pictures of the windows gradually opening is from the perspective and saying “a window of opportunity”. There are two types of line in this photo, vertical and horizontal.

The vertical lines suggest feelings of loftiness and spirituality. The erect lines extend upwards beyond human reach, toward the sky.

The horizontal lines communicate a feeling of rest or repose. These lines are parallel to the earth and are at rest in relation to gravity.
